Earth doomsday event
Objects from outer spacer frequently collide with the Earth, with as many as 500 meteorites estimated to impact the surface every year. While most are small, there have been at least five major impact events within the last 540 million years that each resulted in the mass extinction of half or more of all species present at the time. Among recent impacts, the most noteworthy is the 1908 Tunguska event in Siberia. It felled 80 million trees over 830 sq miles.
