Supermoon of May 5, 2012

The moon as it appeared on May 5, 2012 just before midnight. The moon was said to appear 14% larger and 30% brighter from Earth at the time, as compared to normal full moons throughout the rest of the year. The terms supermoon and perigee moon refer to the moment in the moon's orbit when it is at it's perigee, meaning the point in it's eliptical path that is nearest Earth. The point in the path farthest from Earth is known as the apogee.
